This was an interesting day. There were two "meetings" to choose from with one being our regular Thursday meeting and the other was the San Marcos Chamber of Commerce Business Expo. Quite a few members split their time between both.
The Business Expo was great fun, as always. Several members were floating around and so did not get in the picture. Moe and his wife made it. So good to see them. Susie was at the next table for the Sunflower Bank while her husband Stephen could be seen all over the place with a very official looking camera. Jesse was also on the move. I spotted Felicia although I did not see Willie until after getting to the Grin's meeting. I heard Kristin came by. Penny made it to both meetings. I apologize if I missed naming anyone. The Expo was very well attended, in general.
REPORTS:
We had one guest, Nate, John's son. It was good to have him join us.
Rick has been busy getting our calendar loaded with upcoming events. He passed around signup sheets for both the Installation banquet and four different volunteer events.
The volunteer events are:
Great Pumpkin Dash on Oct. 25th.
School Fuel - Community Support Week on Thurs. Sept. 18 at 5:00 to help with packing food bags. We will be working with the Lion's Club.
San Marcos Academy OctoBEARFest on Oct. 4th, 4:00-7:00 pm.
Rotary Club - Rise Against Hunger on Oct. 18th, 10:00-1:00 at the Lutheran Church.
The Kiwanis Banquet is on Sept. 19th. The signup sheet included showing up at 3:00 prior to the banquet to help with setup along with noting how many would be attending. If you have not done so, yet, please let Rick know if you plan to go. It is $25 per person. Many have already volunteered to bring desserts so that may be covered.
Rick requested 2025-2026 Budget reports be submitted by committees by Sept. 11th so they can be voted on by the Board. Lon has already submitted his.
The faculty advisor Amanda for K-Kids will inform the club when their meetings will start.
Rick had postcards printed for the Pumpkin Dash to hand out to prospective runners. They were available at the Business Expo so hopefully we were able to pick up some more participants.
Kristi announced at the Grin's meeting that she is putting together a car show and wants to include the Kiwanis club in some way. One suggestion was providing breakfast tacos. More brainstorming to come.
