THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS:
Please keep each Kiwanis member in your thoughts and prayers, as a wintery weather report predicts very cold and wet conditions, this weekend. No word on Moe's wife, but I'm sure recovery from her broken hip is no fun! Cheryl Petre's back and hip are better.
If you know of any other members needing to be mentioned above, let Jennifer Richmond or myself, Penny Slavik know. Knowing that someone is thinking of you, really makes a difference.
REPORTS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS:
The program on Service Dogs was canceled but will be rescheduled for a later date. Jennifer Richmond reviewed the minutes from Wednesday evening's board meeting.
1. Contribution Requests: $250.00 to be given to The Feeling Fresh Project was voted on and approved. Also, $600.00 total to be given to Abigail Edge, Lt. Governor of Key Club at Lehmann High School, and one other key club member was voted on and approved.
2. Concerns have been expressed regarding the mobility safety and parking problems, at Grins Restaurant, being experienced by a number of our members, Jennifer Richmond has made some inquiries at several alternative venues, for our meetings, but nothing else has presented itself.
3. Rick Pickering sent out an email invite to several Kiwanis members from the Kyle club that closed down, but has not received any response back, yet.
4. New Member Drive: Rona Walton shared the vision of the membership committee to bring in at least 10 new members in 2026. The committee plans to highlight, during a 2-week time interval, events, social media bursts, "bring friend" meetings, etc... in an attempt to bring in as much interest, and put out as much information of the Kiwanis Club. During these 2 weeks, it is the plan to PROMOTE, PROMOTE, PROMOTE as much as possible!
There was some discussion, following this board meeting report, on other ways our club could draw attention to the Kiwanis presence in San Marcos. Lon Shell shared that the Rotary Club and the Lions Club submit articles and pictures, regularly, in the San Marcos Daily Record newspaper. Someone in the club would need to write the article, and submit it, but the newspaper would not charge. Kaycee White made a suggestion that a member could summarize the Kiwanis newsletter and submit that.
5. Flag Program: It was decided to keep the prices the same as this year, La Cima $50.00 flag, all others $75.00 a flag. The 4H West Club has shown an interest in assisting with money collection. Kristi Dame stated that the parents of the 4 H club kids would assist. Cheryl Petre has volunteered to help with collection, as well.
Rick Pickering plans to attach Kiwanis plastic name badges, onto all the new flags. This should help discourage flag theft.
6. Scholarships: The application process is going to be active, soon. Currently, San Marcos High School no longer has a Key Club. Vanessa Westbrook will be looking into San Marcos Academy, as a possible Key Club participant, in the future.
7. Member Survey: Jennifer will be sending out a survey for the San Marcos Kiwanis members to fill out and send back. It is important to hear back from as many members as possible, as those responses will shape the type of activities our club will promote in the future.
OTHER BUSINESS:
Camp Workday: Lon will send out a list of workdays, when he feels that things need attention. Currently, he is very pleased with the appearance of the camp. There are even 6 new toilets! He plans to go out after today's meeting to finish winterizing the camp.
