Happy Thanksgiving!

San Marcos Kiwanis Club Newsletter, Nov. 21, 2024
Due to my not being able to be at the meeting this week, Rick provided the information for this newsletter. This will mainly be a copy/paste of what he sent me. Many thanks to Rick for doing this on top of everything else he does.

REPORTS:
Kelli brought a delicious cake and we celebrated Kristin's and Felicia's birthdays and Luanne and Chester's anniversary.

Penny updated the club on Pancake day and we are requesting members to provide a big bottle of syrup to save on cost. We encouraged members to get the pancake ads going. The forms were included in the email sent to the club. We also provided to those in attendance pancake day business cards to pass out to their friends and family as a reminder. More are available.
Penny passed around the signup sheet for Pancake Day assignments.

Allie Boles, the Kiwanis Children's Fund Development Officer for TXOK District will be attending our Dec. 5th meeting. She would like club officers/leaders/board members to stay after the meeting for about 15 minutes to discuss the KI campaign "The Possibility Project."

PROGRAM:
We had a fantastic program with Beverly Morrison and Mary Golson. They told us some interesting stories and history about Mermaids at Aquarena Springs.
They did a lot of training and had to learn to breathe using an air tube and how to eat and drink underwater. Fish and turtles were also interested in the food. Most of their friends worked there as mermaids, in the store, or in the coffee shop so it was a fun environment. The volcano was also the dressing room and had a hole to go into the water. The mermaids would sunbathe between shows. The show included a submarine and a swimming pig that was a big hit with everyone.
San Marcos, Tx is known as the mermaid capital of the world. They have a book, Splash Tails available and there is also a CD.
The youtube video they played is called "Secrets Revealed Underwater Theater  - Aquarena Springs" if anyone wants to watch again.

UPCOMING PROGRAMS:

Regular Reminders:
Don't forget to click "like" and "share" on Facebook and other social media to promote the Kiwanis Club. We need to keep getting the club's name out there to promote our community involvement and to add new members to help in our endeavors.

Be sure to check the Calendar posted on the San Marcos Kiwanis Club website to stay up-to-date on what is happening.

Humor and Musings:

Why did the turkey get kicked out of the movie theater? Because it was using "fowl" language.

Why did the turkey cross the road? To prove he wasn't chicken!

My family told me to stop telling Thanksgiving jokes ... but I told them I couldn't quit "cold turkey."

See you in December!
