Reports and Announcements:
1. Unless I have missed anyone for birthdays and wedding anniversaries, we have just one birthday, this month. Lon Shell's birthday is Dec. 26, and Kaycee White has volunteered to bring a dessert treat for our Dec. 18 meeting. Thank you, Kaycee!
2. Kaycee White and Glenn Rydl attended the interclub meeting, held in Marble Falls. Kay cee reported that there were lots of people in attendance, representing numerous different Kiwanis Clubs. During the meeting, ideas and interesting information were part of conversations. Kaycee stated that one club talked about having 200 flags in their flag program, and one group shared that they host a fundraising mixer. Kaycee and Glenn were able to share the different improvements and camps that have been done with the McBride Wilson Kiwanis Camp.
3. Willie Garza updated the club on last minute reports involving the Kiwanis booth participation at the Redline Car Show. Willie will be supplying the makings for breakfast tacos, and will be cooking fresh tacos, as they are ordered. Water will be available for sale, as well.
Update: the car show event was successful, although attendance could have been better. The breakfast tacos were quite yummy, and Willie was a master at cooking! We didn't sell as many tacos, as we had hoped, but we were able to spread the word for the club's upcoming Pancake Day with Santa. It was a good exposure for our club, and plans are being made to participate in the next car show! Maybe even participate in the Chili cook-off, as well! Thank you to Jennifer Richmond, Willie Garza, Felicia Hardemon, Penny Slavik, Luanne and Chester, and Rick Pickering for helping out!
4. Brown Santa will be presenting a program on Dec. 18, 2025, and will be accepting any kids Brown Santa gifts, on this day. Kaycee White passed out a list of gift suggestions for kids ages 14-19. This age group is hardest to provide Brown Santa gifts to. Items such as headphones, skateboards, footballs, hygiene and makeup items, etc. would be greatly appreciated, although toys for younger kids are also needed.
5. Willie stated that he has received approximately 2/3 of the club dues and will help anyone that need to pay their dues.
6. Penny Slavik passed out Pancake Day assignments for final member approval. She is still looking for volunteers to help with the many areas of the event. If you have a friend or family member that would love to help, please let Penny know. Rick Pickering reported that getting Pancake Day ads are going well, and the placemats will be going to the printer this week. Rick and Willie will be hanging the banners around the church, and Jesse Ramos has placed signage in various places. Willie mentioned a housekeeping request, that being that on Pancake Day, due to hot griddles and other hot pans, and small cooking spaces, only those assigned to be in the kitchen, need to be in the kitchen.
Parking on Pancake Day is going to be limited, due to construction, so hopefully our welcoming smiles and yummy pancakes and sausage, will help alleviate any frustration.
Any member that can donate pancake syrup, either regular or lite, we will gladly welcome it! You can bring it to our next Kiwanis meeting or during setup, Friday, Dec. 12, 2025, at First United Methodist Church.
Paige Biersdorfer talks about The Feeling Fresh Project
When it comes to helping kids in San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District get assistance with access to hygiene products, Paige Biersdorfer is very committed! The Feeling Fresh Project is very new, and it all began when Paige's daughter participated in a small hygiene drive, at her school. when she inquired, she discovered that money assistance government programs do not make allowances for hygiene products, and poor hygiene led to school attendance issues. After learning the difficulties that some families have, she made it her goal to set up a room, at San Marcos's schools that students can obtain items such as shampoo, conditioner, body soap, and other hygiene products. To date, she and 2 other women have been able to get Mendez Elementary set up, working closely with the school counselor, and has recently signed on with Bonham preschool. All hygiene products are either donated or purchased using monetary donations. She emphasized a strong need for small travel products, as many children travel from one house to another.
Paige's ultimate goal is to set up at each school, having at least a base level of products (ex: 20 shampoos, 20 conditioners, 20 toothpastes, 20 soaps, etc...). She then hopes to go in quarterly to replenish needed supplies.
Paige shared ways that people can help. Currently, she has a Target Wishlist, and donations can be dropped off at the Jade Seed Wellness Building- 300 S. CM Allen Pkwy, Suite 300., San Marcos, TX
