As I was not able to come to the meeting due to cedar fever, Rick supplied me with enough material to write the newsletter along with a couple of great photos. Guest Erica Simmons from Southern Star Farms attended. This is the venue where the Cornhole Tournament will be held.

After this meeting, members went to help with the "Unforgettable Families and Friends" distribution starting at 3:45 pm.
Rick thanks everyone who helped. Kristi brought her truck and trailer to help load and unload the shoes and books. Penny, Steve, Luanne, Chester, Rosa and Rick helped with shoe and book distribution. He noted that Cynthia had it well organized. Here is a photo of the San Marcos Kiwanis crew with Cynthia and Rosa. I do not have all names of all pictured.
PROGRAM:
Dr. Tina Marie (Waliczek) Cade and Student Liz – Dr
Cade Texas State University is a Professor of Horticultural - +65-year-old
survey. As I was not present to hear the presentation, I will relay some of the information that was printed in the "Informed Consent" and survey which was passed out at last week's meeting. This information is mainly for those who were unable to attend either meeting. "...the purpose of the research study is to learn more about the benefits of gardening programs on quality of life, loneliness and hope. The information gathered will be used to study how gardening programs benefit senior citizens. Kissing Tree Community center has the facilities to allow the classes to take place, so they have been selected." They are looking for a control group. It is an 8 week gardening course which includes garden and learning activities including a hands-on section. A paper survey will be filled out after each activity. Participants will receive gardening supplies, plants and expert advice. Participants may win a gift card and will be able to keep any plant or products produced. If you are interested in participating, we can provide you with contact information for Dr. Cade.
