San Marcos Kiwanis Club Newsletter, Nov. 20, 2025
REPORTS AND ANNOUNCEMENTS:

1.  Rona Walton:  The program that had been scheduled for today's meeting, needed to be rescheduled, as the presenter was unable to make it.  Hopefully, we can get Rona Walton back sometime in 2026.

2.  Eagle Scout project at McBride Wilson Kiwanis Camp:  The showers at the camp are completed and are looking great.  Lon Shell was approached by a local scout troop about a proposed Eagle Scout project, as a way to make private showers.  The work was done quickly, and the Kiwanis board approved making out a check for $450., covering 1/2 of the cost.  This check will be presented at the Eagle Scout Award Ceremony, tomorrow night.

3.  Distinguished Club:  Our Kiwanis club has achieved Distinguished Club status!  Way to go Club! Keep up the good work!

4.  Kiwanis International no longer requires clubs to keep two separate bank accounts; those being the admin account and the service account.  Willie Garza will be making those account changes after he transfers the Frost Bank account to Sunflower Bank.  Once that is done, there will be 1 Foundation Account for 501-C donations, and 1 account for Admin/Service money to be deposited.

5. CASA Holiday Activity:  Rick Pickering announced that CASA is collecting gifts for kids.  If you are interested in helping top make a child's wishes, come through, you can reach out to CASA and they will hook you up with sponsoring a needy child.

6.  Pancakes with Santa:  Jesse announced that he has received 2 sponsorships, totaling $2200. that will cover various costs including Santa's visit.  Rick Pickering shared concerns that so far, we only have 2 confirmed ads to place on the placemats.  Jesse Ramos will be sending out a list of restaurants that are in the Chamber of Commerce, as possible ad purchasers.  If you need assistance in obtaining ads, Jesse Ramos has a wealth of knowledge on ways he gets ads.

HEB is unable to help us with food donations, this year, as there are specific items they require from 501-C organizations.  Hopefully, we can partner with them in the future.  Penny Slavik will be placing an order with Grins and their food distributor.  After Thanksgiving, Cheryl Petre, Rick Pickering, Willie Garza, and Penny Slavik will plan to inventory pancake non-perishables, and then Penny will purchase anything that is still needed.

Penny Slavik is currently working on job assignments for the entire club.  Please reach out to her, if you will not be able to attend the Pancake Day setup or Pancake Day.  Other areas addressed included food permit, banner date changes using white duct tape, and publicity.  Harley Slavik, Penny's son, is now DJing for our local radio station, and will periodically announce our Pancake Day.

HUMOR AND MUSINGS:

What do sweet potatoes wear to bed?   Yammies

Why didn't the turkey want dessert?  He was stuffed.

Jingle Bells was originally a Thanksgiving song.

The original TV dinner was the result of a Thanksgiving miscalculation.  Swanson's miscalculated the number of turkey sales which left some 260 tons of frozen turkeys.
